Common maternal infections that affect the fetus/newborn include: toxoplasmosis, syphilis, rubella, cytomegalovirus, zika, HIV, Hepatitis B. Common infections a baby may be exposed to at birth include: streptococcal bacteria, gonococcal bacteria, chlamydia, escherichia coli (E. coli), listeriosis (Listeria monocytogenes), herpes simplex, HIV Hepatitis B. Some common postpartum infections include: bacterial meningitis, sepsis, conjunctivitis, pneumonia.
