MEDIA RELEASE June 3, 2013 Ontario Trial Lawyers Association elects Charles Gluckstein as new President

BURLINGTON, ON Charles Gluckstein was elected President of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association (OTLA) on May 31, 2013, at the associations Annual General Meeting in Toronto. Mr. Gluckstein has served on the associations Board of Directors since 2001, and has been a member of its Executive Committee for the past seven years. Mr. Gluckstein will oversee the organization during the 2013-14 year.

I am truly honoured to be starting my term as President of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association, said Mr. Gluckstein. I would like to thank my colleagues for giving me this opportunity and for putting their trust in me to take on this important role.

Mr. Gluckstein was called to the Ontario Bar in 1999, and specializes in insurance litigation, which encompasses personal injury, disability matters, occupier's liability issues, product liability and medical malpractice. Mr. Glucksteins firm, Gluckstein Personal Injury Lawyers, is based in Toronto.

Mr. Gluckstein will begin his presidential year with a two-day strategic planning discussion with OTLAs Board of Directors in June to help set the path for the associations priorities. These priorities include a continued focus on advocacy for a fair civil justice system. We have a voice and it is stronger than ever, said Mr. Gluckstein.

Over the past few years, I have watched our organization not only get a seat at the table but have our proposals listened to and taken seriously. We intend to remain vigilant and ensure that law-makers are cognizant of the real-life consequences of the changes to insurance laws, and to do our best to advance the interests of our clients.

In addition, Mr. Gluckstein said that OTLA will continue to work with the insurance industry and other stakeholders to encourage dialogue about the serious issues surrounding automobile insurance in this province. Too often people are not aware of the impact of the cuts to their insurance coverage until they are faced with a devastating automobile injury, at which point it is too late. By raising awareness, the idea of insurance reform is not going to seem too complex or too remote for the public to get behind.
