Rastin Gluckstein Lawyers Donate 550 Helmets to Simcoe County Schoolchildren for 2019 Helmets on Kids Program
Did you know that the Ontario Ministry of Health reports that between 2006 and 2010, 93.75% of cyclists under the age of 18 who were killed in cycling collisions were not wearing a helmet?
The Helmets on Kids campaign was initiated in the London area in 2002 and was started as a joint project of Ontario Trial Lawyers Association members (OTLA) and of the Brain Injury Association of London and Region (BIALR). The program has since expanded across the province and has presented over 40,000 helmets to children in need.
May 8th, 2019 was the kickoff to the annual Helmets on Kids program with personal injury lawyer Steve Rastin of Rastin Gluckstein Lawyers speaking with children at Cundles Heights Public School and Sister Catherine Donnelly in Barrie on the importance of bike safety. Rastin was accompanied by Constable Colin Hopper of the Barrie Police Services and Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit Nurse Sarah Orr-Shaw. Constable Hopper was in attendance to demonstrate proper helmet fitting and bike riding safety. Nurse Sarah Orr-Shaw spoke on how helmets help to prevent brain injuries with an exciting egg drop and 'jello brain' demonstration.
