Recently, Gluckstein Personal Injury Lawyers posted a blog article on how hockey causes the most sports-related head injuries in children and teens.
On Saturday March 30th, Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby was struck with a puck to his face, resulting in a broken jaw, and possible concussion. This is not Crosby's first hockey related concussion. This injury may mean Crosby will be indefinitely sidelined for the remaining hockey season while he undergoes some major dental work and surgery for his broken jaw.
After this injury, Crosby was monitored closely for any signs of concussion symptoms due to being hit so hard in the side of the face. If our children and teens see these injuries happen to their sports idols, they may not internalize how dangerous these types of injuries are, not to mention the lifelong consequences they have. This again raises the concern regarding hockey players wearing correct safety gear while participating in this sport. Perhaps the focus should be on introducing new more protective equipment to the game, since hockey is such an extreme contact sport, which results in countless injuries each season.
Gluckstein Personal Injury Lawyers believes that this is something the NHL should highlight and work toward implementing, as it would help set an example for everyone enjoying this sport; from amateurs to children. These types of injuries are often seen in this contact sport; however, they can be prevented with more protective gear and more awareness.
