He stressed that the current framework leaves too many purchasers at risk, especially in cases of illegal home sales. Rastin advocates for tighter regulations and greater accountability for builders to help prevent future losses and rebuild trust in the housing market. This call for reform comes as Tarion, Ontario’s new home warranty provider, is set to pay out a record $80 million in deposit claims for 2024, the largest payout in its history.
